    The number of sets and the number of wins in a table tennis match depends on the specific type of match and the rules.

    Olympic Games:

    Singles matches are played on a best-of-seven system, i.e. the first team to win four games wins.

    Mixed doubles and team matches are won in three out of five sets.

    World Cup:

    Singles matches are played on a four-set system in the group stage, reverting to a four out of seven system in the knockout stages.

    Basic Rules of Table Tennis

    Scoring: Table tennis matches are played on an 11-point scale, with the first team to score 11 points winning the match. If the score reaches 10-all, the team must be 2 points ahead of the opponent in order to win the match.

    Serving Rules: When serving, the ball must be placed in the palm of the hand that is not holding the racket and thrown vertically at least 16 centimetres before the serving team can hit the ball as it descends.

    Change of Position Rule: In singles matches, the teams shall change positions after every five points; in doubles matches, the table tennis ball shall touch the right half of the server and the receiver successively.
